Mellisphera v2 is coming soon!..

We are pleased to announce that the launch of the new Mellisphera is scheduled for September 2019.

Mellisphera v2 is the result of the close follow-up of about ten key users. We have analyzed their needs and integrated them into a brand new version to answer them as faithfully as possible.

Here are the two main aspects that it will include:

Apiary Mode

Understand the state of your apiary at a glance. This is the ambition of the dashboard, exposing in a simple and exhaustive way the state of the hives, inspections and alerts.

Set up over a schematic or photo of the apiary you can navigate on each of the hives to simply analyze their individual situation.

This interface is intended for all beekeepers. It thus becomes the working tool that allows them to take the right decisions.

Expert mode

Sometimes it is necessary to deepen an analysis by cross-referencing different kinds of data. This is what the Analysis view allows. It is an “expert” interface that provides all the flexibility to gather information according to your specific needs. Because it is important to give the user the possibility to “build by himself” the aggregation of information he considers appropriate.

This module also allows access to the data history. In this way you can cross-reference honeydew or brood information with the weather and compare it with the same period of the previous year.

The alert system

The brand new alert system completes these two modules. Beekeepers need real-time notifications. Based on this fact, we have designed a system that provides hive condition status together with meteorological monitoring.

Improved ergonomy

Mellisphera v2 also has an improved user experience. We have made a significant effort to achieve intuitive and smooth navigation. The result is a tool that has no equal elsewhere. Even if at first glance the appearance is simple, the power is under the hood.

You can now take the most out of it!

Learning precision beekeeping

Learning precision beekeeping

On July 11 at the Chamber of Agriculture of Pau (France), about twenty beekeepers met with the intention of learning details about precision beekeeping. Report of an evening rich in exchanges.

First, the brood

The introduction started by deepening the understanding of brood development. Above all it is the measurements and the analysis of the internal temperature of the hives that make it possible to evaluate the “strength” of a colony. Practical cases were presented, raising many questions from the audience.

Resource tracking

Precision beekeeping also requires accurate monitoring of resources, computed on an hourly, daily and seasonal basis. Honeydew was studied naturally, but also consumption according to the period considered. Swarming is also detectable by accurately measuring the weight of a hive. Combined with the internal temperature, we could understand a queen replacement following a swarming. We have shown and discussed how to identify each of these situations during this part.

Use the weather

Any colony depends heavily on its environment. Consequently we analyzed typical use cases with to different climatic conditions: periods of frost, heatwave, rain … This first meeting was an initiation that we will deepen later with the introduction of alerts to inform users of notable events on their apiary.

Testimony of a precision beekeeper

Jean-Claude PUECH, a beekeeper using Mellisphera for more than a year, joined the speakers to share his experience. Always busy with his work family, he showed how valuable can be to access data remotely and in real time. This feature makes sense because his three apiaries are several dozen kilometers from home. He showed how he anticipates his visits to his various apiaries, prepares his inspections, and targets hives to inspect.

Train and inform

This was our first public lecture. Precision apiculture is learned and we feel engaged in this mission of pedagogy. Training is necessary for any beekeeper wishing to apprehend this innovative vision of beekeeping management. Watch for future appointments!

We are grateful to the Pau Chamber of Agriculture for allowing us to organize this event under ideal conditions. We also thank each of the participants who enriched the exchange with their questions and sharing!

Close to win at e-py exhibition!

E-Py: the digital Pyrenees

This is the name of the salon Pau we attended on Thursday, June 13! This name reflects well our activity: nature and digital, intimately linked. Beautiful place that the Beaumont Palace to meet between professionals of digital innovation and the general public. From start-ups to local authorities, incubators and funders, all types of players in the local digital ecosystem were present at this event.

The Mellisphera team was present at our booth to expose our connected hive platform. You can not miss Mellisphera during this meeting: the project has been highlighted several times!

Mellisphera in the spotlight several times

The founder Lorenzo PONS participated in the round table “data, artificial intelligence and their applications in the world of business” alongside Alexandre Stojanovic of BS Digital, and Fabrice Vaillant, Deputy Director General of Crédit Agricole Pyrenees Gascony. The “pitch” session welcoming a dozen entrepreneurs allowed Lorenzo this time to highlight the technicality of beekeeping and the ability to provide solutions to the challenges of beekeepers and biodiversity through digital. Also, many trophies were awarded and Mellisphera came close to the e-Py awards! We were finalists in the big data and digital innovation category, and it was ST37 that won this award. Finally, among the 10 projects chosen for the trophy “coup de coeur of the public”, we came second, close behind Le Voyage aux Pyrénées. These selections are great recognition for the project and our investment in its development. It’s up to us to make further progress to reach the top step of the podium!

The evening was marked by a lecture by philosophy professor Raphael Enthoven on the subject of “democracy facing social networks”. Theatrical, passionate and relying on multiple sources from all places and times, the philosopher has dissected the place and issues of social networks in various political contexts. It was surprising at first to mix Epicure, Socrates, Darwin, Hobbes and so many others in the definition of social networks! Thanks to him for making us travel in his observations and reflections on freedoms and constraints from one political context to another.

We warmly thank Pyrenees Press for organizing this event, as well as all the participants for making this day a great moment of rich encounters. Thanks also to everyone who voted for us!

Mellisphera enters the open source community

Press release: bees health in open source

We invite you to discover our press release of June 2019!

PAU, June 5, 2019 – The start-up Mellisphera announced, during the Vivatech 2019 fair, the opening of its MelliHealth platform under a free license. It informs beekeepers of the health status of their bees.

Hosted at the Pau Technopole, Mellisphera is a start-up developing connected beekeeping. Since the beginning of 2018, she has been designing a platform to know if the bees of a hive are in good health, or if there is honey to harvest. This information, such as the temperature or weight of a hive, is measured by sensors whose data is transmitted and processed. Knowing these parameters is essential, whether you are a backyard beekeeper or a professional beekeeper. Also, the possibility of consulting this information from home makes it possible to optimize the movements.

So far, data collected by hive-specific sensors has been returned to beekeepers. Using artificial intelligence, Mellisphera provides advanced data analysis with alerts and forecasts. The platform also uses flowering and meteorological data. Mellisphera is therefore a real guide, a decision-making tool for precision beekeeping.

Noting that many initiatives are emerging around the world to offset the decline of bees, the company offers a shared platform that can accelerate the emergence of concrete solutions. Mellisphera thus makes available to the public the fruit of 18 months of work, convinced that collaboration is an essential condition to achieve a successful solution for beekeepers … and bees.

Special announcement at Vivatech

What an exhibition! We had an exceptional experience at the Paris Exhibition Center, Porte de Versailles. 13,000 exhibitors were at the rendezvous of 124,000 visitors who came to meet them during these 3 days.

A committed public

We had the chance to welcome dozens of visitors. Whether they are beekeepers, nature lovers, or attracted to the little jars of honey prepared for the occasion. We introduced them to Mellisphera and what digital beekeeping brings to beekeepers and citizens. Our visitors were very curious and asked many questions, which we answered with pleasure. They were sometimes surprised by the information posted with reactions of astonishment “I did not know that a hive could swarm three times in a row”, “the bees can harvest 2 kilos of nectar during the day! Is it possible ? “There are really times of scarcity that must be crossed…”

A great announcement

Vivatech will also remain a key step in the development of Mellisphera. This is where we publicly announced the opening of the sources of our platform which has been named MelliHealth for the occasion. We are opening to the community the result of 18 months of development, recognizing that many initiatives are emerging around the world to offset the decline of bees, and that each must first overcome the same data aggregation hurdles. This shared platform should accelerate the emergence of high value-added solutions through collaboration

Meeting points

The show is also an opportunity to meet other players in our ecosystem. The Digital Farm is a structuring initiative at the national level. Three connected hive solutions were also present: Nectar from Montreal, API-Smart and Beelife’s Cocoon hive from the southern region.

Acknowledgments and congratulations

This article could not end without our thanks to the start-up team of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region who warmly welcomed us in a very attractive and design space for the event. And a big Bravo! to our friends and office neighbors ST37 Sport et Technologie, who, with their AI refereeing system, won the prize for best digital project 2019 awarded by France Entreprise Digital!

The French Tech in Bearn

In April 2019, Pau Béarn became French Tech community. Bzz bzzz! (which means "hurray!") But what is it, in fact?

French tech is a global entrepreneurial initiative. She accompanies French start-ups in their creation, growth and success. By becoming a community of the label, our city will be at the heart of a new impetus to support companies in their approach of positive impact on our society. For the curious, we invite you to discover the press kit.

This is a very good news for all the start-ups of the Hélioparc technopolis in the city of Pau. Congratulations to dozens of other capitals and labeled communities!

Mellisphera welcomes reinforcement

Thanks to the digital Hackaton organized by GRETA Sud Aquitaine, we will work with six students for three months. Their specialties? Web development and web design!

On the agenda: new encounters, new ideas, visual image, UX, graphics and a dose of fun, without forgetting the tech. We can not wait to start the job, with the feeling of leaving for a very, very special adventure. The dice are launched, the challenge begins!

Meeting of a eco-innovators network

We had the pleasure of participating in the General Assembly of the association Aquitaine Croissance Verte on March 19, 2019. This meeting was organized in partnership with the Hélioparc de Pau, where we are hosted, as well as with APESA .

It was natural for us to meet the actors of this association and their many members given the theme that brings them all together: innovation for a positive environmental impact. Each participant was able to speak for a few moments to present the theme of his company. This tour de table was very user-friendly and informative on the nature of the activities of the members of this network. In particular, Protifly's approach to using insects to promote bio-waste has caught our attention, as well as that of Opure, which is careful to incorporate beehives into the structures it designs.

The life of the association is rich in encounters, meaningful exchanges and quality events. It will certainly be very beneficial for us to join this network in the future!
